Roll up! Roll up!

Friday, June 10, 2022

Belinda Nowakowski, our Healthy Kids Advisor for the City of Greater Dandenong, is hosting two hands-on workshops these school holidays. These free, fun sessions begin with a colourful craft activity exploring Greater Dandenong’s diverse healthy foods and snacks. This is followed by a delicious rice paper roll workshop.

The purpose of the event is to connect with families, children and young people in the community to share our pleasurable food education philosophy and prompt discussion about the healthy changes parents and children want to see in their neighbourhoods.

There are two sessions which are suitable for children of all ages.

Belinda is active in Greater Dandenong connecting with schools, outside hours school care (OSHC), sports clubs and community/council facilities to help boost access to healthy food and drink options.

Our dedicated workforce of Healthy Kids Advisors operate in 13 targeted local government areas to boost participation in the Vic Kids Eat Well movement – a state-wide initiative supported by the Victorian Government and delivered by Cancer Council Victoria’s Achievement Program, in partnership with Nutrition Australia’s Healthy Eating Advisory Service.

The Healthy Kids Advisors initiative aligns with the Foundation’s vision to see children form positive food habits for life. Through 20 years of delivering the Kitchen Garden Program, we are experienced in responding to the needs of families and the settings where they spend their time.

The Foundation is also experienced in co-creating food education programs and helping to engage the community in making positive changes in local food culture. We are excited to see a similar approach being utilised outside of the school gate so that children receive consistent food messaging and behaviour in their wider community.
