Lifelong Learning Festival

Monday, August 29, 2022

Our Healthy Kids Advisor in Melton, Maryann Barsoum, is hosting two cooking workshops for this year’s City of Melton Lifelong Learning Festival.

Delivered as part of City of Melton’s commitment as a UNESCO Lifelong Learning City, this 7-day program celebrates the ongoing pursuit of knowledge where local learning opportunities are showcased, absolutely free.

Maryann’s workshops will showcase healthy and delicious ways for the community to connect with local produce and wholesome recipes to give our young people more of the fresh and nourishing food they deserve.

Maryann is active in the City of Melton working with community health partner Western Health and Council to connect with schools, outside hours school care, sports clubs and community/council facilities to help boost access to healthy food and drink options for our children and young people.

Our dedicated workforce of Healthy Kids Advisors operate in 13 communities to boost participation in the Vic Kids Eat Well movement — a state-wide initiative supported by the Victorian Government and delivered by Cancer Council Victoria’s Achievement Program, in partnership with Nutrition Australia’s Healthy Eating Advisory Service.

The Healthy Kids Advisors initiative aligns with the Foundation’s vision to see children form positive food habits for life. Through 20 years of delivering the Kitchen Garden Program, we are experienced in responding to the needs of families and the settings where they spend their time. The Foundation is also experienced in co-creating food education programs and helping to engage the community in making positive changes in local food culture. We are excited to see a similar approach being utilised outside of the school gate so that children receive consistent food messaging and behaviour in their wider community.
