Urban Agriculture Month is a month-long celebration brought to you by Sustain: The Australian Food Network. A range of events are happening right across the country to showcase all things urban agriculture.

Christie McIntosh, Healthy Kids Advisor for Hume City Council and co-founder of the Hume Seed Library, will host four workshops across Hume. In 2019, Christie joined the Hume Enviro Champions program to share her passion and knowledge about the environment and food sustainability with her local community. She founded the Hume Seed Library in the same year. More recently, she has been celebrating fresh, local produce in local schools in her role with the Healthy Kids Advisor initiative - proudly delivered by the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and supported by the Victorian Government and Australian Government.

This is a great chance to hear Christie share her expertise on the importance of localised food production and sharing seeds with your community. Local residents can learn simple methods to save seeds for future seasons and enjoy the chance to make seed spheres with soil, flour and basil seeds. Pick up a Zucchini Muffin recipe card to inspire some healthy, tasty baking for when the basil plants have sprouted.

About the Healthy Kids Advisors initiative

The Healthy Kids Advisors initiative is delivered by the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and supported by the Victorian Government and Australian Government.

This community engagement initiative is active in Hume and 12 other priority communities to spread pleasurable food education and encourage participation in the state-wide Vic Kids Eat Well movement.

In collaboration with local health promoters and the Hume City Council, Christie McIntosh offers free support and simple ideas to boost healthy and delicious food and drink in schools, sports clubs, after-hours care and council-run facilities.
