Getting Started - 6 & 13 May

Begin your journey with a two-part webinar to inspire and guide your kitchen garden journey, and leave with a clear vision for your program and your next steps.

You will receive collections of supporting resources to study in your own time. Please read these prior to the workshop to get the most out of the session times together.

Over the two interactive workshops and through the provided resource collections, you will:

  • understand what pleasurable food education is
  • consider how to establish a garden and kitchen in your context
  • develop a sense of what kitchen garden classes and experiences look like 
  • explore opportunities for linking to learning
  • understand how to connect to your community 
  • see what types of learning opportunities, resources and support are available
  • ask questions about what you need to get started in your kitchen garden program.

Additional notes

Training outcomes for Primary and Secondary Teachers:

The outcomes of this course are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers as outlined by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).

Completing Getting Started will contribute evidence towards 3.0 hours of accredited professional development in maintaining the following standards:

  • 2.2 – Organize teaching content into effective learning and teaching sequence
  • 3.2 – Plan structure and sequence learning programs
  • 3.4 – Select and use resources
  • 4.2 – Manage classroom activities 
  • 6.2 – Engage in professional learning and improve practice.

The two workshops will run on the same weekday, one week apart. These sessions will be run on:

Workshop 1, 1 hour: Tuesday 06 May

VIC/TAS/NSW/ACT: 1.00 pm – 2.00 pm

SA: 12.30 pm – 1.30 pm

QLD: 1.00 pm – 2.00 pm

NT: 12.30 pm – 1.30 pm  

WA: 11.00 am – 12.00 pm

Workshop 2, 2 hours: Tuesday 13 May

VIC/TAS/NSW/ACT: 1.00 pm – 3.00 pm

SA: 12.30 pm – 2.30 pm

QLD: 1.00 pm – 3.00 pm

NT: 12.30 pm – 2.30 pm  

WA: 11.00 am – 1.00 pm

Please double check your state's start time. The online workshops will take place using Zoom. A link will be sent to all registered participants before each event. You can join the workshops using a computer or tablet.

A recording of each workshop will be sent to participants after each session.
