Details

Delivering Kitchen Garden Sessions is suitable for anyone new to pleasurable food education, including early childhood, primary and secondary educators. It incorporates hands-on, skills-based instruction in the kitchen and garden learning spaces, giving attendees the confidence to deliver pleasurable food education.

This PD day complements and builds on content covered in our introductory PD, Getting Started Online, but can also stand alone. It may also be relevant to educators who have some Kitchen Garden experience, but would like a refresh.

Delivering Kitchen Garden Sessions is the perfect day to consolidate learnings and your own unique kitchen garden program, as well as connect with the Kitchen Garden community.

Training objectives:

  • understand what pleasurable food education is
  • gain core garden skills and understand how to deliver a garden class
  • develop core kitchen skills and understand how to deliver a kitchen class
  • explore the educational resources available including print and digital materials
  • plan and sequence learning that is appropriate to your context
  • ask all the questions you need regarding delivering your kitchen garden program.

Training outcomes 

Early childhood educators:

This course is intended to support the implementation of the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) National Quality Standards.

Completing Delivering Kitchen Garden Sessions reinforces the following elements:

  • 1.1.1 Curriculum decision making contributes to each child’s learning and development outcomes in relation to their identity, connection with community, wellbeing, confidence as learners and effectiveness as communicators.
  • 2.1.3 Healthy eating and physical activity are promoted and appropriate for each child.
  • 3.2.3 The service cares for the environment and supports children to become environmentally responsible.
  • 6.2.3 The service builds relationships and engages with its community.

 

Primary and secondary teachers:

The outcomes of this course are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers as outlined by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).

Completing Delivering Kitchen Garden Sessions will contribute evidence towards 5.0 hours of accredited professional development in maintaining the following standards:
