Pantry moths, caterpillars, snails – infestations of unwelcome creatures can wreak havoc on the kitchen and garden! Come along to hear special guest entomologist, Carol Quashie-Williams, answer your questions about managing the kitchen and garden’s “most wanted” culprits.
During this 60-minute online workshop, participants will learn:
• how to identify common pests in the kitchen and garden
• a variety of environmentally friendly strategies to manage pest outbreaks
• ways to promote a healthy ecosystem in the kitchen garden
• about Shared Table resources to support Biological Science learning outcomes.
Everyone who enrolls will be sent a recording of the workshop after the session. This session is appropriate for all sectors.
Meet the presenter:
Carol is an entomologist, an agricultural and environmental scientist and trainer, and a CSIRO STEM Professionals in Schools partner.
As part of her role, Carol provides advice to teachers and students on seed saving, horticultural practices, monitoring and identifying pests, and environmentally friendly pest control measures.
One of Carol’s partner schools, Namadgi Primary School, recently won the inaugural Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation ‘Showcasing STEM’ award, presented at Parliament House, Canberra, in September 2024.
