Top Ten Shared Table Recipes

Tuesday, August 20, 2024

Since the 2012 launch of our online resource library and community hub, the Shared Table, we’ve published over 450 recipes for our members to enjoy. But which ones have truly captured the hearts of junior cooks across the country? To answer that question, and as a special treat to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Foundation, we're sharing the food trends and most-loved recipes from the Shared Table.

The first source of inspiration

Before the Shared Table, the first recipes our member schools leaned on were from Stephanie Alexander's 'Kitchen Garden Cooking with Kids' cookbook. Some of the most popular recipes from this cookbook still stand the test of time; with many updated and adapted in Stephanie's latest cookbook 'Fresh'

A consistent winner from these two cookbooks is the carrot muffins with garlic butter. Seasonal fruit muffins and seasonal savoury muffins are incredibly versatile and adaptable to what’s being harvested in the kitchen garden. These muffins continue to be amongst the top recipes over the past two decades!

Over 450 recipes!

From 2012, many of our recipes and lesson plans for kitchen and garden classes were made digital, housed on the incredible Shared Table. Today, this online resource library and community hub allows educators to access over 1200 resources to equip them to run the Kitchen Garden Program in their school or service.

Members have exclusive access to over 450 delicious recipes linked to the seasons or by the garden ingredients ready to be harvested. We bring variety to the recipes to suit all sorts of skill levels and budgets. Think no-cook recipes like banana coconut bombs for early childhood or thrifty ideas to minimise food waste, like this carrot top pesto

Basic gnocchi

The top recipes of all time

Since going digital, we’ve loved seeing educators trying out new flavour twists or tackling a classic dish with their students. Educators upload their photos to the Shared Table, so we can all be inspired by each other’s wins (and wobbles).

We have drilled into the data to uncover the 10 recipes most viewed by our members. These are the tried-and-true hits from our community of educators across the country!

All of these recipes are waiting online on the Shared Table. As an added perk, we’ll be sharing four of these recipes as part of Kitchen Garden Month! Stay tuned to our Instagram and Facebook so you can give them a go at home.
