Athelstone Primary School’s core business is to provide 21st Century teaching and learning for all students. The curriculum is designed to enhance learning, thus enabling students to achieve their individual potential. Data is used continuously to inform practice and ensure student learning outcomes are achieved. Information and communication technologies are an integral part of our teaching and learning programs. Our language other than English (LOTE) subject is Italian. Student leadership is fostered and developed across the school through Student Representative Council, assemblies, team building activities, round table assessments and classroom responsibilities. With the introduction of the Australian Curriculum, teachers are now engaged in leading edge professional learning to further develop their knowledge, skills and expertise. Intervention programs are provided in literacy and maths for targeted students. The school community supports cultural diversity, the Italian program, instrumental music, Festival choir, concert band and sports including after-school sports. Environmental education is valued through activities such as recycling, solar energy, development of the kitchen garden, water conservation and energy efficient behaviour. Our current priorities are literacy, numeracy, student wellbeing, and student engagement. The school virtues are cooperation, tolerance, respect, honesty and personal best.
