Playground to Plate grants scheme

Friday, May 4, 2018

Applications for the Playground to Plate grants scheme are now open. This is an exciting opportunity for eligible Victorian schools to give their kitchen garden programs a boost!

The Playground to Plate grants scheme is funded by the Victorian Government and administered by the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation.

The aim of this scheme is to help Victorian schools enhance their whole-school approach to health and wellbeing through a targeted boost of infrastructure funding to support their delivery of pleasurable food education.

There are one hundred grants available. Successful schools will receive a one-off $5000 grant to establish, or enhance, infrastructure for running a kitchen garden program underpinned by the Foundation’s philosophy of pleasurable food education.

Eligible schools can apply for a grant to purchase garden and/or kitchen materials, such as garden beds, garden tools, cupboards, benches, pots and pans – whatever the school needs to deliver a kitchen garden program.

Timeline:

  • Applications open – Friday, 4 May 2018.
  • Applications close – 5 pm, Wednesday, 20 June 2018.
  • Successful applicants announced and funds transferred – July 2018.
  • Funds spent and final reports from schools due back to the Foundation (template will be provided for the report) – Monday, 17 September 2018.

Eligibility

Eligible schools will be contacted directly by email. Applications are open to Victorian government schools with a primary curriculum in the following 24 local government areas (LGAs): Ararat, Brimbank, Casey, Central Goldfields, Darebin, East Gippsland, Frankston, Gannawarra, Greater Dandenong, Hindmarsh, Hobson’s Bay, Hume, Latrobe, Loddon, Maribyrnong, Melton, Mildura, Moira, Moreland, Northern Grampians, Pyrenees, Swan Hill, Whittlesea and Wyndham.

The grants scheme is designed to help support schools in which resourcing may be a barrier to implementing a kitchen garden program. Schools running the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program under a current Memorandum of Understanding are not eligible to apply.
