24 Carrot Carnival
The sun was shining as a cohort of Tasmanian primary schools came together to celebrate the 24 Carrot Carnival earlier this month.
Supported by the Museum of New and Old Art (Mona), the 24 Carrot Gardens Project is a community of twelve schools aiming to deliver the gold standard of school kitchen gardens partnered with fun, learning activities in the creative arts, culinary arts, science and sustainability – so of course they also run the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.
As a partner of the 24 Carrot Gardens Project we were thrilled to be participate in this year’s springtime celebration held on the Mona lawns on 14 October 2015.
The 24 Carrot Gardens schools gathered in the beautiful grounds of Mona to celebrate all things health and wellbeing. The carnival kicked off with each school taking turns to dazzle the crowd with an energetic group skipping display. The professional and polished routine by the Illawarra Jumping Jacks from Illawarra Primary School was particularly impressive – check out the short video on the our Instagram feed for a taste of the action.
Students enjoyed healthy, delicious snacks throughout the day and had fun making art with veggies in the tent set up by ImaginED, a collaborative project between the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department (RHH ED) and local artist Sara Wright.
Australian Children’s Laureate and acclaimed author Jackie French was also a big hit as she and friends took to the stage to speak about how they had overcome various reading and writing challenges to achieve their dreams. Then the students came together for the grand finale, an all-in impromptu dance routine that was a lot of fun for all, teachers included!
Thanks to the folks at 24 Carrot Gardens for including the Foundation in their celebration. It is great to be part of such a wonderful community of schools doing amazing things.
